Kristen Sundby Hutchins (Krissie) was born and raised in El Dorado County. She graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Shortly after graduating from Chico State, she attended the Sacramento Police Academy where she has been a Police Officer for almost 19 years.



Krissie has dedicated her career to helping others in the profession and has worked for nearly 13 years in the Departments’ full time Peer Support/Employee Services Unit. She has developed many programs and trainings within the department related to Wellness, Stress Management, Suicide Prevention and Peer Support. She was a Hostage Negotiator for 13 years and has volunteered as the Secretary for the Departments’ Widow’s and Orphans’ Aid Association since 2014. Krissie currently oversees the Crisis Relief Program under the 1849 Foundation.


Krissie is married with three kids. Her husband, Mike recently retired as a Police Lieutenant from SPD. Their daughter is a school teacher in Utah and their 10 year old twin boys keep them very busy. In her free time, Krissie loves to volunteer at her kids’ school and events. She has a passion for running and has completed several marathons. She loves to be outside, camp with friends and head to their home away from home, Lake Tahoe as much as possible.
